The University of Malaya (or UM) is a public research university located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is the oldest university in Malaysia. The university was founded in 1949 as a public-funded tertiary institution. Today, it has more than 2,500 faculty members. In 2012, UM was granted autonomy status by the Ministry of Higher Education.

The Faculty of Law of University of Malaya is the oldest law faculty in Malaysia, and has been engaged in legal education and research since 1972.


Muttath Knowledge Management Services Sdn Bhd (abbreviated as MKMS) is a Malaysian incorporated company. MKMS works with its associate company in India to develop and manage its products and services including MLTIC.

MKMS specializes in legal and tax online publishing, which includes portal development and management, content management, and online monetizing exercises. MKMS team, which consists of legal and tax editors who work closely with web designers and software experts, delivers legal and tax information portals, industry directories, job portals, client newsletters, e-books, and online bookstores.

The Malaysian Judiciary is largely centralized, and consists of superior courts (the High Court, Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court) and subordinate courts (the Magistrates' Courts and the Sessions Courts).

The Malaysian Judiciary, headed by the Chief Justice of Malaysia, has over 700 judicial officers.

The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM), established in accordance with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia Act 1995 to give it more autonomy especially in financial and personnel management as well as to improve the quality and effectiveness of tax administration, is one of the main revenue collecting agencies of the Ministry of Finance. The Department of Inland Revenue Malaysia became a board on March 1, 1996, and is now formally known as IRBM.

The agency is responsible for the overall administration of direct taxes under the Income Tax Act 1967, Petroleum (Income Tax) Act 1967, Real Property Gains Tax Act 1976, Promotion of Investments Act 1986, Stamp Act 1949, Labuan Business Activity Tax Act 1990.

MLTIC is supported by the Malaysian Chapter of the ASEAN Law Association (ALA), which is headed by the Chief Justice of Malaysia.

The ALA is a non-government organization which brings together under one roof all the different branches of the law profession – judges, law teachers, law practitioners and government lawyers. It was formed in 1979 at an inaugural meeting at Jakarta.

The ALA is a dynamic organization, moving forward in collaborative efforts to understand and harmonise laws in the region. It continues to play a complementary role in promoting a common ASEAN focus on key issues and policies.

Malaysia Middle Temple Alumni Association

The Malaysia Middle Temple Alumni Association ("TMMTA") was registered as a Society in January 2011. There are close to 600 Middle Templars in Malaysia. Three former heads of the Malaysian Judiciary – Tun Mohamed Suffian Hashim, Tun Mohamed Salleh Abbas and Tun Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah – are Middle Templars.

TMMTA is the Malaysian Chapter of The Honourable Society of The Middle Temple and is open to any Malaysian citizen who is a Barrister of Middle Temple and who resides in Malaysia.

Malaysia Inner Temple Alumni Association

The Malaysia Inner Temple Alumni Association (MITAA) supports MLTIC.

Asian Law Students' Association Malaysia (ALSA) Malaysia Chapter was officially founded in 2011 with the aims of promoting academic and cross-cultural exchanges between Asian law students. Today, it comprises of more than 1500 members from the established Local Chapters and Observers. ALSA Malaysia has been active in the ALSA community both in participating, as well as hosting ALSA events.

The Asian Law Students' Association (ALSA) is a non-political association. A rising student organization, it currently comprises 11 member countries and 3 observer countries consisting of Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, India, Laos and Vietnam.

The Malaysian Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) is a body registered under the Societies Act, 1966. Established in August 2006, membership in the MCCA is open to any person who holds a degree in law from a tertiary institution who is not in professional legal practice.

The MCCA’s vision is to be the premier organization for the promotion and facilitation of networking, knowledge-sharing and continuing legal education for the corporate counsel community in Malaysia and the enhancement of the community’s profile among the legal fraternity and the general public.
